Mind The Gap /July 19, 2013
"When there is an explosion in the capacity to receive, store, utilize, transform, and transmit information, the external world changes at a rate enormously greater than the rate at which our internal model evolves."
Dee Hock from Birth of the Chaordic Age.
The internal model in the quote refers to our mindsets, belief patterns, habits and perception of reality. The internal model which has dominated our reality for so long is based on fear and lack. When building our reality on these foundations we have inevitably moved toward systems of control. The human race has so fully embraced the game of separation that we believe our destiny is separate from nature. In fact our identity is unique as the only species which attempts to control nature. To quote Dee Hock once more:
"Deep in most of us, below our awareness, indelibly, implanted there by three centuries of the Industrial Age, is the mechanistic, separatist, cause-and -effect, command-and-control machine model of reality."
The game is so entrenched that we even fear each other and accordingly attempt to control each other.
This is brilliantly demonstrated by the recent Snowden whistle-blower case. Whilst it is no surprise to find out that the US Government is monitoring just about every piece of information on the planet, it is sad that the incredible technology which makes this possible cannot be put to more productive use.
Whilst the growth of technology is explosive (quite literally in some cases), the consciousness to embrace such technology is not keeping pace. Those in power are using this incredible force for change to try to keep everything the same!
The technological advances which should be promising abundance and liberation for all, are ironically being used to keep us locked into the paradigm of lack. In the past I have likened it to building a Ferrari and then using a horse to pull it along.
Fortunately the gap between the internal model and the technology appears to be closing. What is closing it? Consciousness. Awareness. Intelligence. Which ever word you prefer. People are wakening up to the possibility of a different reality or at least the redundancy of the current one. The stress experienced by those trying to extend our experience in separation is growing by the day. Each lie appears more transparent. Each attempt to control with fear seems less effective.
Snowden merely represents that inner voice in all of us which is screaming enough! Time for a new game.
