Holy Cow / 26 June, 2015

The other morning at 6.30 I picked up a friend on our way for an early morning round of golf. Pulling out of his road in sunny suburban Sevenoaks we were both more than a little surprised to see a cow walking unattended along the footpath. Whilst a ten minute drive will put you in the middle of some agricultural land this cow was plainly out of context. Commuters yes. Joggers yes. Dog walkers yes. Livestock no.

We slowed down to look and try to reconcile this aberration. We discussed the obvious explanations (there were none) and eventually, a little confused, continued our journey to the links. I am glad to say the cow was walking on the narrow pavement rather than the road. This cow was definitely in the wrong place but seemed well versed in road safety.

I still have no explanation for the cow and it didn't even make the local paper whose headline screamed Scandal of the dumped dogs (Sevenoaks is a wild town!). In fact I need no explanation for the cow and although there maybe great spiritual significance in this sighting it seems to me that lots of things are more than a little strange at the moment.

Chief amongst the weirdness seems to be time. It's stretching, condensing, and for more than one person I have spoken to this week it is running parallel realities simultaneously. I can't remember using the phrase "I really don't know" quite as often as in the past couple of weeks.

One of the most common and obvious phenomena is a sense of deja-vu or the re-living of recent history. It is almost comical how many patterns played out a year ago are showing up again. The cast maybe slightly different and the circumstances subtly altered but we are certainly being given the opportunity to have another look at our recent past.

The difference this time around is that there seems to be more time to consider the options. There appears to be the opportunity to respond as opposed to react, and interestingly the response is often to simply do nothing. Something which commanded our attention and demanded a choice a year ago is simply observed and passed by. In those moments time is stretching and attachments loosen.

In those moments issues which were previously considered "important" show a remarkable capacity for self resolution.

I really get the sense that the universe is daring us to let go of things which no longer serve us and each time we manage to do so we create the space for something new to appear. In my case on Tuesday it was a cow.

I really don't know and that is a fun place to be!

Go easy, tread lightly, free,
