It's Different This Time / June 13, 2014

There is an old phrase in trading which would be used to to justify irrational decisions at extreme points of the market..."this time it's different!" Usually uttered by someone whose greed just got greedier or fear just got fearier (check my dictionary for that one). The smart guys out there always knew that "this time" was never different. History, like it or not repeats itself.

So here is why I think that this time it is different!

What may catch people out this time is that history works as cycles within cycles, and whilst most are focusing on shorter cycles we are in fact at (or beyond) the end of a very long cycle.

Some were disappointed when 2012 didn't deliver massive change, while others smugly said "I told you so". To all those people as well cynics who laugh off astrology and ancient wisdom as non-scientific, I would suggest that they are simply not paying attention. We are right in the middle of a huge shift in consciousness which accompanies the end of cycles and the birth of new ones. Many are failing to notice the biggest event in history despite being part of it!

The ability to perceive the change will depend upon your awareness, your attention point, and which cycle you focus on. The coincidence of cycles ending (with 2012 a focal point) really suggests to me that this time it is different!

As a demonstration of this it is worth looking around the world.

To those heavily invested in the status quo, with their attention on the mainstream, and focus on short cycles all seems to be returning to normal in the world. Yes, there is a bit of war here and there, and a bit of global warming, but stock markets are doing well and the World Cup has just started. So you know what? Why not just hit the snooze button and carry on carrying on! Bread and circuses will do.

Those awakening to a more expansive "truth" and are brave enough to look outside the box, are aware of a longer cycle. Unfortunately, things can look a little bleak to these people as they inevitably see the incredible resonance with the Great Depression and the consequences which followed. A period of history best not repeated, yet still ingrained int he reflexive response of societies threatened with change.

An even longer outlook cannot help but compare the events around us to the fall of the Roman Empire with the collapse of Western dominance and hegemony. These people are aware of the end of the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency (see below for more if interested). Whilst boring to many, the significance of this shift is seismic and unprecedented to a generation accustomed to the perversion a flawed and repressive system. This perspective holds powerful resonance right down to the Barbarians at the gate, dressed up as the War on Terror.

All of these cycles would have the potential to restart and repeat were it not for the fact that an even longer cycle has come to completion. This was what the Mayan Calendar and 2012 date were describing. The end of a 26,000 year cycle which effectively births a new consciousness. Any of those shorter cycles taken alone can present frightening possibilities, but their coincidence with a new consciousness allows us to choose without reference to those histories.

A new consciousness brings different responses. Just as we are witnessing our own patterns and those of others loosening their grip on our choices at an individual level, so we can expect more conscious behaviour at the collective. We can collectively start to make different choices.

As if to demonstrate this in action I have just read an article about Iraq which closes out with the following:

That's right: as a result of the epic US leftover mess in Iraq, it is now up to its arch nemesis Iran to get in and protect the country from none other than Al-Qaeda. And not only that, but Iran is prepared to work with the "great Statan", America, to defend the middle east from Al-Qaeda!

And to think: this is only the beginning.

Who would have thought? Iran and USA working together to defend Iraq. New times, new responses, new possibilities...

Perhaps this time it really is different!

With love
